Northgate Classic: REGISTRATION NOW CLOSED
The Northgate Classic Mountain Bike Race takes place August 12th and 13th, 2023 at Northgate Trails and Selo Ukraina Festival Site. This year the race offers entertainment for the weekend with camping, food on-site, cash prizes, and a Sunday morning time trial, open to all adult participants of the main race event. Also new this year is the registration process, in an attempt to make entering a race straightforward. Please be sure you read and understand the waiver provided to you on our website - CCN and MCA memberships are not required, however you may wish to purchase personal liabilty insurance. You may wish to fill in and print your waiver before the race and provide it at check-in, or you may simply sign the waiver on-site. Waivers must be signed by all racers at the time of check-in.

RACE Categories
- 11U - 2.5km loop for kids 11 years of age and under.
- 5km Novice - recommended for first-time or very beginner riders. This loop will be conducted on its own.
- 10km Sport - recommended for confident beginner/intermediate riders.
- 20km Competitive - recommended for intermediate riders familiar with the trails.
- 30km Expert - recommended for riders with ample race experience.
- 40km Elite - recommended for experienced folks who just love to suffer.
- Sunday Mass Time Trial - open for adults 18+ who participated in Saturday's race. One fast loop.
Each registered participant will receive a race package upon check-in which includes a race plate and one ticket to enter for the Door Prize! A light lunch ticket is included for racers in all categories other than 11U.

ON-site Camping
New this year is camping right on site, open for the evenings of Friday, August 11 and Saturday, August 12, 2023 at the Selo Heritage Site where the race will be staged. These sites will be $10/night per group - proceeds go directly to trail and grounds maintenance. When you register for the race, there is an option for camping. If you plan to camp, please add camping to your cart - one per group/family.
There are flush toilets and water is available on the site plus plenty of shady areas for a comfortable stay! This area is a one minute walk from the staging area, food vendor, and DJ/(beer garden TBA).
If you would like to book a spot for your van, RV, or tent at the Northgate Trailhead, we have anumber of spots at $20/night. All trailhead camping must be pre-registered via email at



Night Ride at Northgate
This 4 season package is for experienced beginner riders looking to try something new and take the trail ride to a whole new level, under the stars of the expansive north escarpment. This ride is approximately 80 minutes through the Northgate trails system, once the sun has set. Experienced coaches provide complete guidance, headlamps, helmets, backpacks, water bottles, and safety gear. An experience for the adventurous spirit! This package includes a one night stay (based on double occupancy) in the Northgate microcabins, fat bike and gear, and a fully guided experience along the trails.
Packages require a 2 person minimum and 6 person maximum.

Intro to Cycling Trails Package
This 4 season package is for beginner riders that want gain some confidence to try out trail riding. The package includes a one night stay at Northgate Microcabins (based on double occupancy), one fat bike and gear essentials (helmet, backpack, water bottle), an intro lesson designed to give you confidence on the trails, and an optional guided tour. Bikes and gear are brought directly to your door with flexible check in and lesson times to suit your schedule. Melisa and Alex are certified Professional Mountain Bike Association Level 1 instructors who focus on creating a safe but fun experience on the trail.
Packages require a 2 person minimum with an 6 person maximum.

Meet your Hosts
Melisa Stefaniw and Alex Man are both lifelong outdoor enthusiasts. Each have had unique experiences, with the common thread of outdoor athletics weaving throughout their individual life lines.
Alex Man
Alex has combined his passion for outdoor recreation and background in engineering into a career of designing and building sustainable mountain biking and hiking trails. His outdoor experience includes 30 years of mountain bike racing at the expert level, international adventure races at the professional level (most recently Amazon Prime's Eco Challenge Fiji), and coaching youth mountain biking including the Manitoba Provincial Cycling Team. He holds a PhD in soil mechanics and an MSc in environmental engineering. This unique combination of skills brings significant insight to current trail building issues and their solutions. Alex has one the national "Trail Builder of the Year" award for his work on Winnipeg's Bison Butte, and was the key designer for Dauphin's Northgate Trail System.
Melisa Stefaniw
Melisa brings a wealth of knowledge to Decipher Wilderness Experiences from nearly two decades working in the tourism sector in British Columbia, Alberta, and now Dauphin. Melisa began snowboarding competitively at a young age and moved into instruction, always keeping in mind access to non-traditional sports to women and girls. She is the founder of F-Cycle, a women - centered cycling group for all ages and abilities and was a founding member of the Dauphin Derailleurs Cycling Club, the organization responsible for the Northgate Trails development. Her approach to Decipher's hosted experiences combines a love of hospitality and passion for connectedness to both people and nature. Both Melisa and Alex hold their Level One Mountain Bike certification with the Professional Mountain Bike Instructor's Association.


Winter Fat Bike Experiences
Fat biking has rapidly grown as a means to get outside in colder climates for exercise and enjoyment as well as commuting. Decipher offers introductory fat bike experiences including guided lessons and rentals. Along with day tours, we also offer night rides and special catered night ride tours, with full accomodations provided at the trailhead in the modern, cozy microcabins.
Northgate boasts upwards of 15 km of consistently groomed trail through rolling hills and pristine boreal forest.
